When this application is launched, it performs checks to validate if the current computer is a CRM server or not.

To validate this, the Registry Key "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM" is checked. If present, it indicates the current server is a CRM server

If the registry key is not found on the current computer, the application is automatically set to work against a remote server. You then need to specify a server name (without "\\") and click on the button "Connect to this computer".

If the registry key is found, the application retrieves current computer values but allows you to connect to a remote server

Hi,

I was trying around with the Trace Remote Server but could not find a way to get this working. Following scenario: my user is associated with a CRM System Administrator, my user was granted full control to Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM and to the folder mentioned for TraceDirectory. I'm not local Admin on the CRM server nor I am allowed to log on via rdp. When I try to connect to the remotse server with the diagtool I'm getting "An error occurred: An error occurred when retrieving trace settings: Requested registry access is not allowed". Is there any more registry key where I need permissions?

Hi,

I can connect to the registry but when I try to open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE I get access denied even if my user has full access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subkey.

Is there anything else required than full control to the registry hives?

Great work Tanguy. I use your site map editor and view layout replicator on a regular basis.

Have used the diagnostic tool in the past, but having trouble with the new version. Seems like no matter what I do, from which client, the trace directory is always empty.

This is on a CRM 2011 UR7 on-premise using IFD.

Any thoughts why this might happen or how to troubleshoot?

The user can change the path for the platform tracing log directory but the logs still go to the default path (i.e., "C:\program files\microft dynamics crm\trace".

Rated 4 Stars (out of 5) - Didn't seem to work on 32bit Windows 7 machine. Worked fine on 64bit Windows Server that ran MS CRM 2011 locally. Very easy to use and does exactly what it promises.
